"Tychicus will tell you everything." Ephesians 6:21

Still Powerful

I remember the night of August 1st, 1968.  I was counseling at a Mayfield Lake Youth Camp.  I was “98% committed” to the Lord (how do you do THAT?).  As a counselor, I needed to know all the memory verses so I could check the campers whenever they wanted to say them to me.  That Thursday night laying on my bunk, I was considering one of the memory verses: Romans 12:1-2.  Here it is the way I memorized it then (in the KJV).

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.  2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

That night as I considered God’s great mercy to me, I came under great conviction.  Then, after struggling with God, He changed my life as I “presented my body as a living sacrifice” to Him.  It was the best decision I have ever made.  Literally everything in my life since then has been impacted by that decision.

On June 25, 2013 – 45 years later – I had the privilege of telling that story and while sharing on these verses to a group of just over 100 teen-agers at Camp Soundview, in Puget Sound.  As I shared I became very aware that this group was well prayed over.  It has been a long time since I have spoken to any group of people who paid closer attention to what I was saying.
When I gave them an opportunity to kneel and “present themselves as a living sacrifice” nearly all of them joyfully did.

It was wonderful to see that the message of Romans 12:1-2 is still as powerful as ever!  Please pray for the ongoing impact of the truths of these verses upon the lives of these kids.
